One of the best sofa designs from the 50s, the stylish polar bear sofa designed by Jean Royère, seems to have made a comeback. If you’re wondering about how its name came about, it is first recorded as being upholstered in off-white wool and its curved-shape inspired the original name.
After working in the import-export trade, the French designer started his interior design practice, known for the use of bright colors, luxurious organic shapes and plush fabrics. The designers biggest project was the Carlton Brasserie on the Champs Elysées which led him to international success.
The Polar Bear is now one of the most covetable furniture pieces from the 20th century. Let yourself be inspired by some living room ideas with this iconic sofa!
