Salone del Mobile is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited. This has been Milan’s major interior design exhibition since 1961. The purpose of Salone del Mobile is to promote the best furniture solutions, and the iSaloni Fair brings together over 2 000 exhibitors to demonstrate their superb goods for the best high-end contemporary living. But it ain’t all: Salone del Mobile 2022 also prepared some interesting events for those who will be visiting, and one of them is the Salone del mobile.Milano Talks.

Salone del Mobile

The greatest interior design event will take place in Rho Fiera Milano from June 7th to June 12th, 2022. This year’s principal theme for Salone del Mobile‘s 60th edition is sustainability. The iSaloni Fair 2022 will include a dynamic exhibition layout showcasing the most creative ideas and concepts from well-known firms.

Talks event

Along with the purely commercial offering, the Salone del Mobile has organised a jam-packed schedule of meetings focused on how social, business, educational, and design activities affect and have a positive impact on the planet’s future. Mario Cucinella, Paola Antonelli, Alice Rawsthorn, Yves Béhar, Daan Roosegaarde, and Victoria Siddall are among the speakers.

These talks will be focused on how design, technology, art, performance, education and communication can work together to create social, cultural, productive and financial synergies aimed at overcoming the
environmental challenge and setting in motion positive, real ecological transition.

These ideas are what compound the Salone del Mobile‘s and SaloneSatellite Talks programme and which will be held in their respective areas from the 7th to the 12th of June – Design with Nature in S.Project’s Pavilion 15 and the show dedicated to exceptional young designers under 35 in Pavilion 3.

The Talks in the “Design with Nature” area will be curated by an all-female trio, Maria Cristina Didero, Beatrice Leanza, and Chiara Alessi. Each one of them will be focused on a certain topic related to their studies.

Maria Cristina Didero, Curatorial Director of Design Miami/ 2022, and a consultant and writer, will focus on the subject of transformation, research and sustainable innovation, while Beatrice Leanza, who has helmed international institutions such as the Lisbon Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology and Beijing Design Week, the curated program is entitled The Design and Science of Worldbuilding. At last, The Real Imaginary Story, developed and managed by essayist and curator Chiara Alessi, will feature Marco Dambrosio, known as Makkox, an illustrator and television writer.

The Talks of Salone Satellite

Yves Béhar, the Swiss designer and entrepreneur, will be included in the SaloneSatellite founder and curator Marva Griffin Wilshire’s programme of meetings, which will be conducted in the Arena of Pavilion 3, which is hosting the show devoted to young designers this year.

The second talk will feature two international design figures, Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design and Director of Research and Development at MoMA, and Alice Rawsthorn, journalist, critic, and design expert, who have collaborated on a Design Emergency Instagram Live series of talks.

Franco Lisi, Scientific Director of the Istituto degli Ciechi di Milano, and architect Alberto Apostoli will follow. Lastly, the meeting, sponsored by the SOS School of Sustainability|Masters in Sustainable Architecture and Design, will be chaired by architect Mario Cucinella and will feature a range of speakers and #SOS9 students – Academic Year 2021-2022.

Overall, the Salone del Mobile 2022 Programme of Talks provides a unique platform for broad thought on design and architecture, as well as their present social and sustainable implications.
