The Drummoyne house is a thoughtful and honest approach to developing a timeless home for a young family to carry down through the centuries. To build a house that celebrates each architectural element, space planning, core passive design principles, and material palette integrity were applied.
Many of the items, including the dining table, coffee table, and modular sofa, were specially designed by Sarah Jayne Studios in collaboration with local craftsmen. Because of the materiality’s integrity in the design, the embellishment could be kept to a minimum.
Given the architectural ribcage ceiling’s strong effect in the main living room, the interior design was developed with a subtle approach to tone and a concentration on textured, layered materiality throughout. Leathered black granite, Calacatta Viola marble, polished marmorino walls, solid timber floors, aged brass, and textured grasscloth wallpaper are among the key elements utilized to accomplish this look.
This project required great attention to detail, careful material curation, and a plethora of natural and salvaged timbers from neighbouring ports to mirror the surrounding harbourside.
This property was built for solitude and was surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass, gorgeous sandstone walls, and limestone floors. All of these hard surfaces, however, required an amount of softness to bring in the casual warmth that the customer intended. The requirement was to build a relaxing refuge and hideaway for them to enjoy with friends and family, away from their busy and frantic existence.
The clients hired Sarah Jayne Studios to finish the decor and style for this addition and restoration. Their goal was to find high-quality, well-crafted furniture and artefacts manufactured locally and responsibly, as well as some pieces from producers throughout the world. We obtained the artwork for this project from Australian and New Zealand artists.
Sarah Jayne Studios responded to the challenge by designing a practical and modest design with a simple and connected indoor-outdoor living area with a light, modern vibe that used tonal materials, clean lines, and bursts of blue.
The combination of tones and textures produces a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Sarah Jayne Studios, determined to build the ideal family home, drew inspiration from the contrasting light and shadow of the ancient, original portion of the house. They were able to breathe new life into a vintage property by embracing the eccentric 80s details. The original architecture’s heritage characteristics and proportions were painstakingly preserved and restored, with tiny moments of beauty produced in each and every room – from the dining room with its deep and dramatic teal wallpaper to the library with its rust upholstered armchairs.
Sarah Jayne Studios meticulously created a balance of light and dark, using timber and natural stone to ground the space, while working closely with suppliers to create bespoke furniture pieces such as a custom buffet made of ebonised timber with vertical scallop detail, and a custom 3m dining table made of solid American black walnut.
The client commissioned Sarah Jayne Studios to breathe fresh life into a tired Surry Hills terrace, making it fit within the customer’s lifestyle and the edgy surroundings of the neighbourhood.
The theme of “sophisticated industrial” pervades, which is accentuated by the design’s use of natural materials, textures, and colours. On this project, they use a variety of materials in their designs, including steel, solid wood, leather, and bronzed mesh.
Sarah Jayne Studio collaborated with Nikki Rosen Design on this project to create a magnificent modern interior in a classic Federation property in Mosman. Despite having remodelled a decade ago, the property was in need of an update to meet the demands of the growing family. Sarah and Nikki collaborated to modify the home’s arrangement as well as its look, with amazing results.
Sarah Jayne Studio redesigned the floorplan to incorporate three living areas: one children’s activity space at the front of the property, a family living room directly off the kitchen and meals area, and luxe and stylish parents retreat on the lower ground floor, to create a more liveable family home. This area has a bar, formal dining, and a formal lounge with a new fireplace/TV. This is the perfect gathering room, seamlessly linked to the pool and terrace.
